ASPI crosses 7,000 – Acuity Stockbrokers

The Bourse ended the week on a positive note this week with ASPI increasing by 95.89 points (or 1.35%) to close at 7,193.28 points, while the S&P SL20 Index also increased by 1.06 points (or 0.04%) to close at 2,867.72 points.

Turnover & Market Capitalization

Piramal Glass was the highest contributor to the week’s turnover value, contributing LKR 6.76Bn or 56.50% of the total turnover value. HNB followed suit, accounting for 5.79% of turnover (value of LKR 0.69Bn) while Commercial Bank contributed LKR 0.62Bn to account for 5.15% of the week’s turnover. Total turnover value amounted to LKR 11.96Bn (cf. last week’s value of LKR 6.39Bn), while the daily average turnover value amounted to LKR 2.99Bn (133.78%W-o-W) compared to last week’s average of LKR 1.28Bn. Market capitalization meanwhile, increased by 1.36% W-o-W (or LKR 42.26Bn) to LKR 3,142.71 cf. LKR 3,100.45Bn last week.

Liquidity (Value & Volume)

The Materials Industry Group was the highest contributor to the week’s total turnover value; accounting for 60.50% (or LKR 7.24Bn) of market turnover. Industry Group’s turnover was driven primarily by Piramal Glass & Dipped Products which accounted for 97.01% of the sector’s total turnover. Banks Industry Group meanwhile accounted for 16.99% of the total turnover value while Capital Goods Group contributed 9.19% to the weekly turnover.

The Materials Industry Group dominated the market in terms of share volume; accounting for 78.07% (or 631.27Mn shares) of total volume; with a value contribution of LKR 7.24Bn. The Food; Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group followed suit; adding 8.44% to total volume (68.24Mn shares) while Diversified Financials contributed 3.31% (26.78Mn shares) to the weekly share volume.

Net Foreign Position Foreign investors were net sellers this week with a total net outflow amounting to LKR 1.87Bn relative to last week’s total net outflow of LKR 0.55Bn (-236.7% W-o-W). Total foreign purchases increased by 1;525.4% W-o-W to LKR 6.34Bn from last week’s value of LKR 0.39Bn; while total foreign sales amounted to LKR 8.20Bn relative to LKR 0.94Bn recorded last week (768.7% W-o-W).
