Vandals damage Queen’s Hotel

The Queen’s Hotel in Kandy, which is named as a World Heritage Building, was attacked by a group of drunken rioters on April 1 damaging several places including its entrance.

Blood stains were also found near the nameplate, which declares the Queen’s Hotel in Kandy as a World Heritage Site.

Kandy Police Division In-charge SSP C.K Rathnayake said that a police investigation has been launched taking into account the CCTV camera footage of the hotel.

He said that the relevant agencies should intervene and submit a report to assess the damage caused to the World Heritage Building.

A party of the Kandy Bar Association was also at the hotel on the day of the incident.

Kandy Bar Association President Dhammika Hettihewage said that a party of the Bar Association that he organised was held at the hotel on that day but none of the lawyers was involved in the incident.
