Nethmi Malshani a promising women’s cricketer

17 year old Nethmi Malshani, a leading batswoman of St.Anthony’s Girls School, Katugastota started her cricket career in the year 2015 under the coaching of Susantha Basnayake,former St. Anthony’s Cricketer and a level two coach of Sri Lanka Cricket. Susantha Basnayake has been a cricket coach of St.Anthony’s Girls School for over eight years.

Nethmi Malshani is the opening batswoman of the school cricket team as well as the Central Province Girls Cricket team. She showed her class as a batswoman when she scored three half-centuries at the Inter Provincial Cricket Tournament in 2017 and the half centuries were against Nuwara Eliya District (Twice) and Kegalle Provincial Teams.

She has been in the Development Squad from the year 2018 under the coaching of Amila Pinnaduwa, Provincial Cricket Coach. Her best bowling feat is 4 for 32 at the Girls School Tournament when she was a member of the champion Cricket team of St.Anthony’s Girls School which has won the Kandy District Cricket tournament from 2017 to date. Her School has won the Kandy District Cricket Tournament continuously for over ten years.

The Cricket team of St.Anthony’s Girls School became one of the best eight teams at the All Island Girls Cricket Tournament for a number of years since 2016 and Nethmi is maintaining her batting skills and she has scored 46 against Nugawela National School and an unbeaten knock of 22 against Jayasiripura Junior School of Bakamuna in the cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Assocation which is now in progress. Nethmi is included in the Sri Lanka Women’s World Cup Squad and her intention is to be selected to the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Nethmi is thankful to the Principal of the School as well as her Coaches Susantha Basnayake and Amila Pinnaduwa, the Provincial Coach for the encouragement given to her.
