Second dose of AstraZeneca jab from April 19

The second dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca Vaccine will be given from April 19, State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle said in Parliament yesterday (05). Fernandopulle noted that 300,000 vaccine doses have already been allotted for the second dose and the stocks will be accordingly distributed from April 19 to June 30.

State Minister Dr. Fernandopulle made these observations in reply to a question raised by the Opposition MP Gayantha Karunatilake concerning the second dosage of the Oxford AstraZeneca Vaccine.

“When we started giving the first dose on January 29, the second dose was due in four weeks. However, researchers found out that the second dose could be given after 10 to 12 weeks from the date of the first dosage. According to this scientific information, the second dose will be given from April 19. There is no issue regarding giving the second dose,” Dr. Fernandopulle pointed out.
