Sri Lankan Taekwondo players felicitated

Sri Lankan Taekwondo players who brought honour and fame to Mother Lanka with their excellent performance at the 13th South Asian Games 2019 held at Kathmandu, Nepal were felicitated by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Namal Rajapaksa, the Ambassador of Republic of Korea Woonjin Jeong and the President of Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation Kanchana Jayaratne recently at the Grand Monarch Hotel, Thalawathugoda.

A total of 251 medals were won by Sri Lankan players including 40 gold, 83 silver and 128 bronze medals at the South Asian Games out of which Sri LankanTaekwondo players obtained 27 medals including four gold, seven silver and 16 bronze..

Sri Lankan Taekwondo team became the third highest medal tally winner and also recorded the highest percentage of medal wins among all the sports represented by Sri Lanka at the 13th South Asian Games. The tournament featured 29 athletes representing the sport of Taekwondo, 27 of which won medals.

Women-Individual Poomsae: R.D.M.T. Jayaweera (Silver), N.I.S. Mendis (Bronze), P.M.A.G. Sandamali (Bronze).

Poomsae Pair: M.P.D.R. Prabhath/N.I.S. Mendis – Gold in 17-23 age group category, J.A. Nishshanka/R.D.M.T. Jayaweera-Silver in 23-29 age, I. Lakshman/ P.M.A.G. Sandamali-Bronze in over 29 age.

Men-Team Poomsae: J.A. Nishshanka/I. Lakshman/I.W.K. Weerasinghe-Gold in over 23, M.P.D.R. Prabhath/K.P.A.S.I. Perera/M.T.N. Viranga-Silver in 17-23.
