Kavinda Kaushan the athlete turned karateka

16 year old up and coming Karate Black Belt holder and Athlete Jayalath Pedige Kavinda Kaushan has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Senanayake National School Madampe

Kavinda who was born in 2005 was admitted to Wellarama Maha Vidyalaya Bingiriya in 2011. There were no sports activities during this period in that school and when he was drafted to his present school he participated in the under 14 and under 16 Relay Events and in the Inter House Sports Meet in 2020 his house team came second in 100x4 and 400x4 metre relays and won the second place.

In the mean time his parents Ajith Susantha and Nilusha Pushpakumari encouraged him to take up to Karate at his school and he came under the Karate Coach Sugath Kumara in 2018 and his Prefect of games is Mr. Chandana.

His first Karate Meet was Puttalam District Karate Do Association and in his attempt he won a Gold Medal in Kumite. and his next meet was organized by the North Western Province and he won a Bronze in Kumite. In the Sri Lanka International Shotokan Karate Meet he came third.

In 2019 at the North Western Province Inter Schools Karate Meet he won a Bronze in the under 16 age category in Kumite and in the same year at the Puttalam District meet he won a Gold in Kumite and in the North Western Meet he won another Gold In the Puttalam District Inter School Karate Meet he grabbed a Gold and in the Sri Lanka Shotokan Karate Do Association meet held at Ragama he won Golds for Kata and Kumite and in the Sri Lanka Friends Karate Association meet he won a Bronze in Kumite.
