Sun overhead until April 14

On the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 05th to 14th of April in this year, said the Meteorology Department. The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (07th), are Colombo, Malwana, Kosgama, Sitawaka, Maldeniya, Rozella, Talawakele, Sita-Eliya, Ettampitiya, Passara, Warralanda and Paladi Kalapuwa at about 12:13 noon Showers or thundershowers will occur at a several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts in the evening or night. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places in above areas. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere over the island. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sun directly over Sri Lanka

The Sun would be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from April 5-14 due to the apparent northward relative motion of the Sun, the Meteorology Department stated. The Public have been advised to take necessary precautions in view of extreme heat during this period. The Department said this is a usual biannual phenomenon. The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Bolawatta, Wedeniya, Wattarama, Ambagamuwa, Digana, Mahawala, Galgamuwa, Ampara and Oluvil at 12:12.

The Department also said misty conditions could be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning.

“Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces in the evening or night. Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm can be expected at some places in the above areas. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere over the island. The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunder showers,” the Weather bulletin said.
