SSC-Army clash pick of the quarter-finals today

The clash between Army CC and the SSC at the P. Sara Oval will be the pick of the quarter-final matches of the SLC Major Club Limited Over Cricket Tournament, which will be worked off in Colombo today.

The two teams in fact will revive their rivalry once again as they earlier met in the SLC Twenty20 Tournament final this season where the SSC triumphed by 29 runs at the SSC Grounds.

Meanwhile, Group ‘A’ leaders Baduraliya CC will meet Moors SC at Moratuwa and the unbeaten Ragama CC will take on the Tamil Union at Katunayake.

In addition, NCC who are also unbeaten in Group ‘C’ will play against Navy SC at the Colts Grounds.

The significant feature in this year’s tournament is that both the defending champions CCC and the last year runners-up Chilaw Marians CC out of the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Mahela Udawatte of Moors SC is the highest run-getter of the tournament with an aggregate of 351 runs which includes one century and three half-centuries.

SSC’s Charith Asalanka is in second place with 348 runs with two centuries to his credit while maintaining an average of 87.00.

Army SC all-rounder Himasha Liyanage is in third place with an aggregate of 336 ruins while Ragama CC’s Janith Liyanage is in fourth place with 323 runs.

In the bowling department, Moors SC leg-spinner Praveen Jayawickrama and Saracens SC’s left-arm paceman Chaminda Bandara have captured 15 wickets each in six matches.

However, Jayawickrama is on top of the list with a superior average. Ragama CC’s Binura Fernando and Army SC off-spinner Dushan Vimukthi with 14 wickets each are placed third and fourth respectively.

Meanwhile, BRC’s off-spinner Umeshka Morais has the best figures of seven for 46 against Bloomfield while Charith Asalanka has the highest individual score of 178 not out against Police SC.

Badureliya CC vs Moors SC at Moratuwa, Ragama CC vs Tamil Union at Katunayake, NCC vs Navy SC at Colts Grounds and SSC vs Army CC at P. Sara Oval.
