Coconut oil in bowsers had aflatoxin - Customs

Tests have confirmed that the stock of coconut oil in the two bowsers taken into custody by the Police in Dankotuwa recently was contaminated with aflatoxins, Customs Media Spokesman Sudaththa Silva said.

The samples obtained from crude coconut oil in the two bowsers were tested at the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI).

He said the Customs continue investigations on the matter. He said the samples of the stocks were also sent to the Government Analyst’s Department and the Food Control Unit of the Health Ministry, and that their reports were pending. The two bowser trucks were seized by Dankotuwa Police on March 30 on suspicion of containing carcinogenic substances.
