The Health Ministry has issued special health guidelines for Muslim devotees to follow at mosques in the month of Ramadan.

The Muslims in Sri Lanka began their Ramadan fasting season on April 14. Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena has issued the guidelines on April 13 with 30 health guidelines for them to follow during the prayers and other religious activities at the mosques.

Persons below 18 years will not be allowed to enter mosques for prayers and only 100 persons will be allowed to enter a mosque.

Overcrowding outside mosques, entrance, lobbies, waiting areas and prayer halls have been restricted and a distance of at least one metre should be kept between two worshippers.

Wearing face masks has been mandated and devotees must bring mats to pray in the mosque and should not loiter in and around the mosque before or after the prayers.

The devotees must not distribute ”Kanjee” soup in the mosques.

They have been advised to stay home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, runny nose, sore throat or shortness of breath.
