Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela last Saturday ordered the Southern Expressway Director to hand over the CCTV footage containing details of the vehicles that left the Pinnaduwa entrance of the Southern Expressway on June 5 and 7, to the Galle Police Divisional Crime Investigation Division.
The magistrate issued the order on consideration of a submission by Galle Divisional Crime Investigation Division OIC IP Dinesh Nishantha De Silva. The Magistrate’s Court was informed with the submission that a large number of people from the Western Province had arrived in Galle by vehicles through the Southern Expressway on June 5 and 7.
Several media reports had alleged that the Covishield vaccine second dose had been administered to a large number of people on those days. They had arrived in luxury vehicles at the Galle District Health Services Director’s Office in Unawatuna. Thereafter, an investigation had been initiated to look into the allegations, the Police stated in the submission.
