Man hijacks car with girl, robs her

A car that had been hijacked by a man with a woman inside near a bank in Karapitiya was later found dumped near the Boossa Timber Corporation yesterday (24) morning. A complaint received by the police from a 26-year-old girl from Hiyare, in Akmeemana currently studying medicine at a Russian university said she had arrived at a bank in Karapitiya with her sister on Wednesday evening.The sister, who drove the car, had gone to the bank with the engine running while her elder sister was seated in front.

A man who had approached the car had got into the car saying that he wanted to take back his van and had left the place with the girl in front. Her mobile phone had also fallen off the car as she screamed and opened the door to jump out of it. When she screamed, the suspect had grabbed her by the hair, lowered her to the ground and drove the car.

The suspect who had driven the car had stopped it at Ovakanda in Rathgama, robbed her of her bangles and had taken Rs.150,000 kept in her hand bag and fled after handing over the remote device of the car.

Later she had returned home and had lodged her complaint with police.

Police had located the car parked near the beach at Boossa. A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the Galle police.
