Advisory for rough sea and strong winds issued

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre today issued an advisory for Rough Sea and Strong Winds. According to the advisory, "The wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph in the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanturai during this period from 02.30 p.m. 21 July 2021 until 02.30 p.m. 22 July 2021. The wind speed can be increased up to (50-60) kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island. The sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanturai can be very rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be rough at times.." Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regards

Strong winds, rough seas expected

Fairly strong gusty winds up to (40-50) Kmph are likely across the island, the Meteorology Department said.

The department said also strong gusty winds up to (60-70) Kmph can be expected in the western slope of central hills, North-Central and North-Western Provinces and in the Hambantota, Mannar, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Trincomalee districts. Showers will occur at times in Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces.

Several spells of showers will occur in Western and North-Western Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts.

Meanwhile, the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota and from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai can be very rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be rough at times.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Winds will be South-Westerly and wind speed will be (40-50) Kmph in the sea areas around the island.

The wind speed can be increased up to 70 Kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Matara and Hambantota and from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai. The wind speed can be increased up to 60 Kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

Several spells of showers will occur in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
