Arrested protesters granted bail

Police today said that 44 persons including teachers who were arrested after protesting in front of the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday (04) , were granted bail today.

They were released on a personal bail of Rs 100,000 each after being produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate court.

Police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the suspects had been subjected to Rapid Antigen Tests by the Colombo Municipal Council following their arrest, and they had all tested negative.

Senior DIG Ajith Rohana further said statements have been recorded from the arrested individuals.

The Police Spokesperson said that they will be charged with Wrongful Restraint, Unlawful Assembly, and the Violation of Quarantine Rules & Regulations and offenses under the Thoroughfares Act of Sri Lanka
