Kalyana Dhirasekera elected President for 2021/22

The Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka (PRISL) held its 56thAnnual General Meeting on 26th August 2021, as an online event, in compliance with the current health and travel regulations and Kalyana Dhirasekera was elected President. .

The outgoing President Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa in his address, highlighted some of the key achievements during his tenure of presidency of two years, and thanked the Council of Management and the members, for successfully managing the affairs of the institute during one of the most turbulent periods in the history of the country.

In his welcome address, the President elect Kalyana Dhirasekera, observed the prominent representation of the dry rubber, latex and plastics industry sectors in the new committee, and stressed that this would add strength to PRISL to face the challenges posed by current social, economic, political and environmental scenario both locally and globally.

With the gloomy global forecast on an uncertain recovery and the predicted economic downturn, countries like Sri Lanka will be facing the adverse fallout effects. The Rubber Industry especially with its high value addition, and the Plastics Industry, will have a leading role to play in the recovery process, and PRISL as the apex body in polymer education in the country should be in a strong position to support the industry.

The Covid-19 experience has opened up new awareness and opportunities which will be explored by the institute in its efforts to serve the members and the rubber and plastics industry fraternity in Sri Lanka. High priority will be given to the educational programmes, and fostering professional knowledge through Webinars and Workshops.

The main efforts will be focused on improving the quality of the educational programmes, in line with the regional and global developments, and to expand the local and international networking. The President elect said that PRISL will be in a strong position to navigate through the difficult but challenging conditions, successfully.
