Minister instructs to expedite district level vaccination drive

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukawella yesterday (30) instructed the Ministry Officials to expedite the vaccination drive at the district level.

The Minister instructed to provide vaccinations to those in the age group of 30-60 years and those above 60 years in the relevant districts.

The discussion was held with the participation of Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Epidemiology Unit Director Dr. Samitha Ginige and Deputy Director General, Public Health Services Dr. M. Arnold. The second dose is now being given and the Minister requested to deliver it on time.

The Minister said that various complaints have been received from certain districts and a good relationship should be maintained among the District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, Provincial Directors of Health and Divisional Medical Officers to carry out the vaccination programme effectively. Health Officials said that four million vaccines will be available in the first week of September this year. It will complete the vaccination drive for those over 30 years of age.
