Red Data Book on Endangered Trees, Species after 10 years

The Environment Ministry has completed the new edition of the Red Data Book on Endangered Trees and Species in Sri Lanka. It has to be compiled every five years, but within 10 years, it has not been compiled.

When Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera assumed duties a year ago, he advised the Ministry Officials to compile the Red Data Book soon.

The Biodiversity Unit of the Ministry, therefore, has completed the Red Data Book within a year. The Book comprises nine parts.

The last time a Red Data Book was published in 2012. The book was then edited 10 years later.

The launching of the new edition of the Red Data Book will take place on Friday (3) at the Ministry under the patronage of the Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and the participation of Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe,.
