Nadungamuwe Raja began 96km return journey to Gampaha

The Ceremonial Tusker which carried the Sacred Tooth Relics Casket at the recently concluded Esala Perahera, Nedungamuwe Raja yesterday began his 96 kilometre return journey to Gampaha after paying homage to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. Nedungamuwe Raja began his journey on August 2 from his residence in Nadungamuwa to go to Kandy. He arrived in Kandy on August 12 to participate in the Perehera. The 67-year-old elephant is considered to be the largest elephant in Asia and is taken on foot every year for the Perehera. Nedungamuwe Raja has carried the Sacred Tooth Relics Casket at the Esala Perahera for 12 years.
