Sajith seeks Presidential Pardon for Ranjan

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday appealed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for a Special Presidential Pardon for former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who is currently serving a jail term.

Referring to the letter written to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Opposition Leader mentioned  that Ramanayake was in jail from January 17 last year and he has been in the jail during for the last 232 days.

He further has said that the former Parliamentarian Ramanayake has consistently displayed a pleasant temperament , a good character and always helped needy people in the society. He has also done invaluable service to uplift the lives of less- privileged people in the society many occasions, Premadasa said.

The Opposition Leader further mentioned that Ramanayake always respected the need of people and he is also a real human being.

Premadasa also mentioned that during the last several years Ramanayake was adjudged the best favorite actor in several awards ceremonies for his capable acting he performed on the silver screen and also received many prestigious local and international awards for his cinema creations.

In addition Ramanayake was also elected to the Parliament with the highest majority.

“I can assure that this former Parliamentarian during his unblemished career in the social life has never done any injustices to the society and also never engaged in any unlawful activities. As you are aware during this period many religious dignitaries, politicians, persons who are engaged in the legal profession , ordinary people as well as cinema artists and singers had also requested from you to grant him a pardon and release him,” Premadasa stated.
