ASPI in record breaking surge: Surpasses 9,000

For the first time in the history of the Colombo bourse, the All Share Price Index (ASPI), one of the principal stock indices of the Colombo Stock Exchange surpassed 9,000 levels, recording an impressive turnover over Rs.14 billion yesterday.

This is the first time in the history of Colombo bourse that ASPI surpassed the 9,000 level indicating the confidence of investors in the Stock market. Transportation, Capital Goods, Diversified Financials and Food and Beverage sectors mostly contributed to the day’s turnover.

Stock brokers said that the US$ 1.2 billion inflow from IMF’s SDR, a Chinese funding and the Bangladesh Bank currency swap helped boost investor confidence.

The All Share Price Index inched upwards by165.5 points (+1.8%) to close at 9,163.1 whilst the S&P SL20 Index also increased by 75.9 points (+2.3%) to close the day at 3,440.5.

Colombo Bourse’s impressive Rs.14 billion turnover is three times higher than the average daily turnover of Rs. 3.9 billion maintained this year.
