There is no limit to what Jetze Plat can do. The dual sport athlete has his third Gold Medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games after winning the cycling road men’s H4 road race at Fuji International Speedway yesterday.
It comes a day after he won the men’s H4 time trial and just three days after defending his men’s PTWC triathlon title.
It was a dream come true for the Amsterdam-native, who before the Paralympic Games, had spoken about his desire to win three Gold Medals at Tokyo 2020.
“I’m really proud after the corona (COVID-19) year last year. I didn’t get a break but kept pushing harder and started the season really strongly. In every race I felt stronger and stronger,” Plat said after his win.
“Three out of three, so many things can happen but I was in the best shape, I didn’t make any mistakes and I deserve the three Gold Medals.”
Despite the rainy and foggy conditions towards the end of the race, Plat finished the 79.2km course in a time of 2:15:13s - almost six minutes ahead of the Silver Medallist Austria’s Thomas Fruehwirth with his teammate Alexander Gritsch taking Bronze.
It was the exact same result from yesterday’s time trial.
The 30-year-old dominated the road race, never leaving the lead pack of riders. At the 26.4km mark, it was Plat and Fruehwirth in the lead before the Dutch athlete broke away with 30km to the finish line.
He bettered his finish from five years ago at Rio 2016 where he finished with a Bronze in the same event. (Agencies)
