Vaccine for those between 18 and 30 begins

Sri Lanka began administering the COVID-19 vaccines to those aged between 18 and 30 yesterday, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

The Minister pointed out that while administering vaccines to the front line activists in the COVID suppression process, a number of vaccines have already been given to those in this age group and in addition, a certain number of youths in that age group have also been vaccinated in essential services including the garments industry.

The Minister has instructed officials to expedite the vaccination of 3.7 million people between 18 and 30. These facts were revealed during a discussion held at Health Ministry yesterday with the Public Services United Nurses’ Union (PSUNU). Union President Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera and a group of union members participated in this event.

A letter of 18 proposals was also handed over to the Minister by the Union. The Nurses’ Union commended the Minister for providing positive solutions to many of their issues.

The Minister said he is confident that those over 30 would be fully vaccinated before the end of the next two to three weeks and that the vaccination for citizens over 18 would be completed before the end of October.
