Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure State Minister Nimal Lanza said that the people will be provided with essential commodities without any hindrance despite the COVID pandemic.
State Minister Nimal Lanza was speaking to the media in Gampaha last week.
“The Government will take immediate action against errant traders who sell goods at high prices,” he said.
"The people are under a lot of pressure during the pandemic. Thousands are jobless. Therefore, exploiting the people in the pandemic is extremely unfair. The Government, therefore, will take maximum legal action against errant traders and manipulators of prices,” he said.
“Distribution of consumer goods including paddy, rice and sugar will be coordinated. The essential food items are being sold at reasonable prices through the Sathosa outlet network. The Government has also set up a mechanism to distribute vegetables and fruits from economic centres. The President has also instructed relevant Officials to expedite raids throughout the island to seize hidden goods,” the State Minister said.
“Swindlers who inflate the prices of essential commodities will be dealt with severely. As a responsible Government, we have to take action against the swindlers,” State Minister Nimal Lanza said.
