Decommissioned ambulances to be repaired

The Transport Ministry has commenced a programme of repairing immobile ambulances which have been decommissioned at hospitals.

Accordingly, Lakdiva Engineering Private Limited which is under the purview of the Transport Ministry is engaged in repairing 10 ambulances decommissioned by the Health Ministry. They will be handed over to the Health Ministry as an urgent measure to help the process of transporting both patients and dead bodies. Transport Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said this move will help to increase the revenue of the Lakdiva Engineering Company as well.

The company currently assembles bus bodies for the use of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB). Dilapidated unroadworthy buses which have been put aside by SLTB depots after operation over a considerable period have been repaired and delivered back to the depots to re-engage in operation.
