The first consignment of saline produced locally under the logo of the State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) was officially handed over to the State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof Channa Jayasumana by SPMC Chairman Dr. Uthpala Indrawansa at the Health Ministry yesterday.
The last rites of Uruwarige Heenmanika, the wife of Adivasi leader Uruwarige Vanniyale Aththo were performed at the Mahiyangana Pradeshiya Sabha crematorium yesterday (06) in accordance with the COVID Quarantine Rules. The Adivasi Leader received the body from the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and it was taken to Mahiyanganaya amidst Police security. Heenmenika died on September 4 while being treated at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for COVID infection. She was 64 at the time of her death and was the mother of nine (8 sons and a daughter). The body was taken to the crematorium in a traditional Adivasi funeral procession, which was attended by only by a small number of people, including the Adivasi leader and close family members.
