Economic revival certain after vaccination – State Minister Shehan

Sri Lanka will experience an economic revival in the fourth quarter of this year after the vaccination of all above 20 years this month, Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self-Employment and Business Development State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.

The State Minister was participating in a political discussion at the Department of Government Information on Monday

He said that the Budget 2022 will comprise many positive agendas. The vaccination throughout the country will pave the way for economic revival, the State Minister said.

The Government already set several plans to strengthen the Sri Lankan Rupee against the US Dollar in the coming months, he said.

“The Finance Minister has instructed to pay more focus on the livelihood development of the people. Steps have been taken to increase the amount of money being circulated among the public to build up a friendly economic environment for those in self-employment and day-pay jobs,” he said.

“The country should be re-opened immediately after the vaccination. Keeping the country closed for a long period, directly affects the self employed people and day-pay workers than others,” he said.

On the instructions of the Prime Minister, the Government has also set up a programme to strengthen 200, 000 self-employed and those who are going to start self-employment.

Nearly 110,000 people have already been selected in this regard on a systematic method, the State Minister added.
