Indonesia Defence University provides two SL Army Officers with scholarships

Two Army Officers, Lieutenant Colonel Janaka Ranaweera and Lieutenant Colonel Kosala Wijekoon, have been selected to follow the Masters in Defence Diplomacy (International) at the Indonesia Defence University (IDU). They paid a courtesy call on Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia Yasoja Gunasekera on September 2 at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta.

This is the first time in the Sri Lankan military training history that the IDU offered scholarships to the Sri Lankan military to follow the Masters Degrees. Minister Counsellor (Defence) Commodore Nalindra Jayasinghe attended the meeting.

The Defense University of the Republic of Indonesia held the opening ceremony for the Vocational, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral education programmes on August 30 at the Indonesian Defence University ceremony field, Sentul Bogor.

Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia Lt Gen Muhammad Herindra graced the occasion. He was accompanied by the Chancellor of Indonesian Defense University Vice Admiral Prof. Dr. Amarulla Octavian. The two Sri Lankan Army Officers who obtained the Scholarships also attended the Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony was attended by 11 scholarship awardees from five friendly countries - Sri Lanka (2), Nigeria (two military Officers and one government officer), Pakistan (1), Zimbabwe (one Military Officer and two Police Officers) and Laos PDR (two military Officers).
