Novice monks at the Welipatha Athulanandanarama Temple in Galle are producing organic fertilizer and growing vegetables in containers at the temple successfully under the guidance of Chief Incumbent Ven. Welivitiye Sirisobitha Thera.

The novices are using both compost manure and liquid organic fertilizer for growing vegetables.

“We have 15 novices at our temple. So we thought of producing organic fertilizer and then decided to grow vegetables using them. We use pots and small containers to grow vegetables. Now we see our methods are very effective and feel that we can have a good harvest enough for the temple and beyond,” the Chief Incumbent said.

“Agriculture Research and Production Assistants Gauri Nayanthara, Janaki Perera helped us in our mission,” Ven. Sirisobhitha Thera said.
