More herbal gardens to be set up in Kurunegala, Puttalam

Ayurvedic Hospitals Development State Minister Sisira Jayakody said that 1,678 herbal gardens will be set up in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North Western Province to produce indigenous medicines to battle COVID 19.

Since herbal drugs are increasingly used to combat COVID-19, the Government has taken steps to grow herbs in large numbers in the two districts, the State Minister said.

About 1,200 farmers have been selected to grow herbal plants at a cost of Rs.8.5 million, the State Minister said.

“We do not have enough stocks of herbal medicines. Therefore, growing more herbal plants is urgent,” the State Minister said.

Herbal plants will be grown in Temple and Government lands,” Sate Minister Sisira Jayakody said.

About 245 ayurvedic physicians volunteered to assist in this regard, the State Minister said.
