Sri Lanka will play two warm-up T20 matches against Oman in the lead up to their World Cup campaign that begins on October 18, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed yesterday.

UAE and Oman are co-hosting the rescheduled 2021 edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup that was originally slated for last year in India.

The Sri Lankan team is due to depart for Oman on October 3 and will play two games against the hosts as additional preparation, on October 7 and 9 respectively.

"We are looking to play as many games as possible leading into the World Cup in similar conditions the team will experience in the UAE. The games against Oman and the two ICC practice games will allow us this opportunity," said Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley de Silva.

Sri Lanka, along with Bangladesh, did not qualify directly for the Super 12 of the marquee event and will compete against the six teams who've made the cut through the Qualifiers in Round 1 from where only four teams would progress.

Sri Lanka are placed alongside Netherlands, Ireland and Namibia in Group ‘A’ for this round. (Agencies)
