Do not appoint Monitoring MPs – Sajith

Opposition and Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa referring to the Government’s decision to appoint Monitoring MP’s to observe the development activities done by Ministers, said it is unethical at this crucial moment when the Government has a sole responsibility to control the pandemic situation.

He said if the Government goes ahead with this decision, the Monitoring MP’s will have to be granted many privileges including vehicles and other perks.

Opposition Leader Premadasa mentioned that this is not the time to spend tax money unnecessarily and asked the responsible officers to refrain from destroying financial resources in this manner.

He asked the Government to invest that money to purchase medical equipment and distribute them to countrywide hospitals running out of medical equipment.

“Take the example from SJB as we are providing medical equipment to hospitals, especially to those where COVID infected patients are receiving treatment,” he said.

SJB National Organizer Tissa Attanayaka said recently the SJB donated Rs. 3.3 million worth of medical equipment to the Kinniya Base Hospital in Trincomalee and Rs.3.9 million worth of medical equipment to the Kegalle Teaching Hospital. He said the funds to purchase the medical equipment were collected from SJB Parliament members, party organizers and supporters in local and overseas branches.

Attanayake said the SJB is expected to donate more medical equipment to other hospitals in the future.
