Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Dileepa Piries appearing on behalf of the Attorney General's Department told the Magistrate that the deletion of data from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) database could be part of a conspiracy of the medical drug mafia.
DSG Dileepa Piries made this submission when the case related to the NMRA data loss was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today.
He stated the deleted data relates to names of companies that import medical drugs to the country, adding that this would pave the way for such companies to set prices in the local market at their discretion.
He added an extensive investigation is being carried out regarding the incident.
DSG Dileepa Piries also stated that Epid Lanka technologies (Pvt) Limited is responsible for the security of the NMRA Database and that the company had failed to fulfill its responsibilities.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala stated that the Court could not intervene in the matter regarding the update of the relevant computer database.
Accordingly, the order preventing the database from being updated has been revoked. The case will be taken up for hearing again on December 9.
