Rs.20b - 25 b excise revenue loss due to Quarantine Curfews - Commissioner General

The Sri Lanka Excise Department has lost between Rs. 20 and 25 billion in revenue due to the imposition of Quarantine Curfews, its Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri said yesterday (13).

He said the loss was for period of one month between May and June and after August 20 upto now this year. He said that the closure of licensed liquor outlets would result in the loss of between 600 and 700 million rupees a day in revenue. "Other factors, including the collapse of the tourism industry and the reduction of public alcohol consumption due to the pandemic, have also contributed to the loss of revenue," he added.
