The development work of the B640 road to Chilaw via Nainamadama and Iranavila, which runs parallel to the coastal boundary has been expedited, as a solution to traffic congestion in Wennappuwa, Marawila, Mahawewa, Madampe and Chilaw on the Colombo-Puttalam main road, said State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure Nimal Lanza.

The 32 km long road is being widened under two lanes. Work covering 18 kms has already been completed. A 100 metre long bridge has been completed in the Barudelpola area on this road. Also, an 80 metre long bridge in the Thoduwawa area has been completely renovated.

In addition to resolving traffic congestion, the speedy completion of this road will also help in the development of the tourism industry and the fishing industry in the area. In order to promote the tourism industry, it is planned to plant coastal plants on both sides of the road to enhance the attraction of the area.
