Married youth held over child molest

The Police on Monday apprehended a 20-year old married youth in Nugegoda on suspicion over an incident of a serious sexual abuse of a 5-year-and-eight-month old girl, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

He said that the arrest was made by the Police Child and Women’s Bureau. He said the suspect is a resident of a neighbouring house of the victim. The suspect had taken videos of his act and had shared them among his friends using social media.

The Police Spokesman said the Police have obtained a detention order for 72 hours against the suspect to interrogate him. He added that legal action would be taken against the suspect under the Penal Code and the Obscene Publications Act.
