Main suspect in Rajagiriya drug raid remanded

The main suspect in the incident where a police officer was injured during a drug raid at Obeysekarapura in Rajagiriya, surrendered before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala ordered suspect to be remanded till September 29.

A policeman sustained injuries when he jumped on to the bonnet of a car driven by drug traffickers during a raid at Obesekarapura in Rajagiriya on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Police yesterday located the car involved in a recent drug raid in Rajagiriya where a Police officer risked his life to chase the offenders by holding onto the bonnet of the moving vehicle. The CCTV footage shows the Police officer’s daring act even as the offenders tried to escape. The car had moved with the Police officer in civilian clothes holding on to the bonnet for close to a kilometre.

Police had found the car at a house in Thalangama area and the sole occupant, a woman had been taken into custody.

The Police also arrested two suspects in connection with the recent drug raid in Rajagiriya. “The Police officer who was injured in the incident is recovering,” the Police Media Unit said. However, Police are still to arrest the main suspect connected to the incident, whom they identify as a resident of Nugegoda.
