Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Germany Manori Unambuwe made a tour in the Free and Hanseatic City of Bremen from September 23-24 to strengthen friendly relations. Bremen is a federal State that enjoys an enviably broad and diverse economy, with its major industry sectors being in maritime, logistics, wind energy, automotive, aerospace, and food and beverage.

The Ambassador met the Mayor, President of the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte, and discussed possible avenues for furthering relations between Sri Lanka and Bremen, especially in the backdrop of the advanced maritime industry of Bremen. The Ambassador was also accorded the honour of signing the Golden Book at the historic Townhall of Bremen.

The meeting held with President of the Bremen Parliament Frank Imhoff was a significant moment where the two sides pledged to work in close cooperation and explore opportunities to intensify cooperation, especially in the trade and maritime sectors.

Ambassador Unambuwe also met Vice President Eduard Dubbers-Albrecht and Managing Director of the Department of International Affairs of the Chamber of Commerce in Bremen, Volkmar Herr. The Ambassador highlighted the recent economic developments in Sri Lanka and upcoming new investment opportunities in Free Trade Zones and the Colombo Port City.

The Ambassador also met a group of key business leaders in Bremen representing irrigation, engineering, food, renewable energy, and maritime sectors. Whilst some of the companies were already engaged in business with Sri Lanka for many years, Ambassador Unambuwe renewed the invitation to consider Sri Lanka as a destination for their future investments.

With Bremen being home to around 4,000 Sri Lankans, Ambassador had the opportunity to meet a cross-section of Sri Lankans at the residence of Consul of Sri Lanka in Bremen Thomas Kriwat. The Ambassador invited their continued support for Sri Lanka’s development drive and the formation of an association in Bremen was initiated, to build closer ties within the Sri Lankan community.

The visit was organised by Consul of Sri Lanka in Bremen and Northern part of Lower Saxony Thomas Kriwat.
