‘Parents should take legal action against TU leaders’

Kurunegala District Retired Government School Principals’ Association President K.A. Jayasinghe on Wednesday said that parents can file actions as per the UN Charter against Teacher Union leaders in the Supreme Court over depriving children of their education right.

“Politically motivated Teachers’ Unions’ leaders have deprived children of their education rights. These leaders have tempted teachers to violate the rights of students. It is a violation of the fundamental rights of the children,” Jayasinghe said

Jayasinghe was speaking at a meeting of retired schoolteachers and principals of the Kurunegala District on Wednesday at the Bingiriya Community Centre to mark the World Teachers’ Day.

He added that the teachers get their salaries without doing their duty for the students. “Their salaries are paid by the Government from the tax collected from the poor parents. Therefore, what their present action cannot be condoned,” he said.
