Seventeen year old Ramindi Niketha Somachandra, a Grade Thirteen student of Girls’ High School, Kandy is a talented carrom player who was a promising Table Tennis player and a Swimmer at Junior level in the school.

She had to curtail her TT and swimming ability as she had to concentrate on carrom in many tournaments in School itself. She started the game of carrom under the coaching of Suraj Theekshana when she was in Grade Seven and she won her first tournament in 2017 which was the Provincial Tournament. She continued her winning spree by securing the first place at the Under 15 Inter House Carrom Championship and became the Provincial Champion at the same tournament in the Under 17 age group In 2018. She won the doubles in the under 17 age group with her partner Amali Panditharatne at the Inter School tournament and she was selected as the vice-captain of the School team and she won School colours for carrom in 2020.

She started Table tennis at House level under the coaching of Samantha Dikkumbura and Nirmala Jayasinghe representing ‘Lawrence House’ and she was in the school winning Under 12 Table Tennis team at the Central Province Table Tennis tournament held at the Peradeniya University Gymnasium and their team consisted of Nivanthi, Ranudi, Vishmi and Ramindi. In the following year this TT Team was among the ‘Best Eight’ TT teams at the All Island Table Tennis Tournament held in Colombo.

Ramindi was a good swimmer who was best in the Butterfly stroke at House level for over three years and she had to give up as she wanted to concentrate fully on Carrom.

She is a bright student who secured Eight ‘A’ s at the G.C.E.(O/L) who is also involved in extra curricular activities . Her intention is to improve her ability in CarRom to become an International player and to improve her skills in all the extra curricular activities. She is thankful to her parents, the Principal Of GHS, Malkanthi Abeygunasekera and her other coaches for the encouragement given to her to come to this standard.
