Maha Season Cultivation in Ampara planned

Paddy will be cultivated across 215,000 acres around the Senenayake Samudraya during the 2021/2022 Maha season in the Ampara District, while 10,200 acres will be cultivated with sugarcane, Ampara District Secretary D.M.L. Bandaranayake said.

He was speaking at a meeting to discuss cultivation of the Ampara District in the Maha season at the Akkaraipattu Divisional Secretariat Auditorium recently

Gal-Oya Right Bank Resident Project Manager S.L.A. Ansar, Irrigation Regional Director Sujitha Gamage, Agriculture District Director M.S.A.Kalees, Agriculture Deputy Director (Extension) M.F.A. Zaneer, Divisional Secretary M.T.A.Ansar and farmer representatives were present.

District Secretary Bandaranakayake said that organic fertilizer will be used for the Maha season and the Agriculture Department Officials are providing farmers with necessary instructions in this regard.

The District Secretary said that cultivation work will commence by October 15 and sowing will be completed by November 15. He added that the Senenayake Samudraya contains190,000 acre feet of water, which is adequate with the rain water to cultivate successfully during the Maha season.
