PM meets teachers’ unions

A meeting was held yesterday between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a delegation of Teachers’ Trade Unions at Temple Trees.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena and the Chief Incumbent of Narahenpita, Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera discussed issues related to teachers’ salaries.

Meanwhile, a meeting that was scheduled to be held between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and representatives of the teachers’ and principals’ trade unions at Temple Trees yesterday (11), was postponed.

Speaking to the Daily News the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) General Secretary, Joseph Stalin said that the meeting with the Prime Minister has been scheduled for 12.00 noon today (12). The meeting will focus on the issues in the education sector, including the teacher-principal salary anomaly.

He said that it has been 93 days since the strike began and they will not accept any alternative other than proper solutions to their issues and demands.
