Kandy District Cricket Association have finalized all arrangements to come back with their cricket. They are all-out to play their tournaments, starting with the qualifying tournament. Clubs have been requested to be ready to play their matches.
Sixteen teams will compete which is going to be an opportunity for up and coming teams mainly from outskirts of Kandy City. Then the KDCA 2020 limited over’s tournament reached the final stage and was halted due to the present situation will have to play only the Final. Kandy Youths CC did their best in this competition by winning all their seven games including the semi finals against Old Rajans CC.
In this tournament most number of runs were made by cricketers like Chathura Kumarasiri in six games, made 312 with two not outs and 95 not out was the highest, Ganidu Kamburugamuwa made 267 runs in six games with 114 as his highest score both from Kandy Youth CC, then Old Antonians SC Yasiry Gamarachchi made 225 in five matches with 86 as his highest and totalled 225 runs. Then in bowling Navodya Jayaweera of Onslaught CC in five games bowled 37.3 overs to take 16 wickets, Ghanidu Kambutugamuwa Kandy Youth CC took 16 wickets in six games bowling 41.4 overs, Sunimal Dissanayke Saracens CC in five games took 13 wickets giving away 136 runs.
Then in the 2021 inter club limited over qualifying tournament, following clubs will take part. Group “A” Honest Star S.C., Kingswood C.C., Titans S.C., Tuskers C.C.,Sport Plus S.C., Thunder C.C., Lion Heart C.C., New Wave C.C and in their Group “B” Hewaheta Ekamuthu C.C., Upcountry SM S.C., Central Youth C.C., Old Jinaraja C.C., Akurana C.C., Assex C.C., Siyanco S.C and Old Ranabima C.C.
Plans are also under way to select the development squads for all age groups and speciaised squads to undergo further training .On commencement of school activities school’s will be notified. A T-20 Tournament will also be conducted for identified member club teams.
In these KDCA tournaments some of the top sides will be in action, which will provide a pathway to cricketers, who are sure to give their best with the bat and the ball.
At the moment the weather over here in Kandy is not in favor of cricket and the organizers are going all-out to confirm the venues.
