Food security will be maintained and the consumers will be protected from the monopoly of the traders, Samurdhi Self-employment, Home Economy, Micro Finance and Business Development State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.

The State Minister was addressing a press briefing in Anuradhapura yesterday.

“On the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, we will set up a mechanism in this regard,” he said. “New laws and regulations will be enforced shortly to thwart the black markets that fish in troubled waters,” the State Minister said.

State Minister Semasinghe said that if the special gazette notification on controlled prices had not been withdrawn, an artificial rice scarcity would have occurred in the market.

“Now rice is sufficiently available in the market. The farmer is getting a good price for their paddy. The Government will revise any policy, decision or a regulation for the benefit of the public.

It is not stubborn or dictatorial. We are always ready to adjust our policies for the people,” the State Minister said.

“The Government will establish a country where the people do not have to depend on the Samurdhi allowance,” the State Minister said.
