Seventeen year old, Helaka Jayasinghe, a student of St.Anthonys’ College, Katugastota is a G.C.E.(A/L) student and a talented Swimmer. He started swimming since the year 2011 under the coaching of Jagath Uyanhewa, veteran Swimming coach of the School and in the year 2013 he won the Novices 50 metres. Butterfly event in the under 9 age group.

In 2014 he secured the first place in the Butterfly event at the Provincial Swimming meet and in 2015 at the National Age group swimming meet held at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool. He secured the third place in 50 metres Butterfly event and fourth place in 200 metres. Individual Medley event at the same swimming meet In the same year he secured the tenth place out of 450 competitors at the Penthatlon event at the 42nd Sri Lanka Schools Swimming meet and he came fourth in the 50 metres. Butterfly Stroke and became fifth in the 100 metres. Free Style event in the under 13 Age group.

In 2016 he became Eighth in the Pentathlon Event in the Under 14 age group and he secured second place in the 50 metres. Butterfly event and fourth in 200 metres. Individual Medley event at the National age group swimming meet held at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool. In 2018 at the Junior National swimming meet he came third in 200 metres. Butterfly event held at the Issipathana swimming pool and he continued his swimming career by securing seventh place at the Two mile Sea Swim

out of 523 Competitors in his age group. At the 46th Sri Lanka Schools Meet held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Pool, he became third in the 50 metres. Butterfly event at the same meet and in the same year he secured the second place in the same event in the Under 16 age group.

Helaka is a bright student and his intention is to do higher studies in the Engineering Technology and his ambition is to improve his ability in Swimming to become a National and International Swimmer and he is thankful to his swimming coach, Jagath Uayanhewa for the guidance given to him to improve Sea swimming as well and the Principal of the School and the teachers-in-charge and his parents for the encouragement given to him.
