A No-Confidence Motion (NCM) will be brought against Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, if he fails to take action to provide a solution to the farmers’ fertilizer issue, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, National Organizer, MP Tissa Attanayake said.
He was speaking at a Sadaham Yathra programme held in Galagedara yesterday (17).
Attanayake said that the lack of fertilizer required for cultivation has led to a huge crisis today and this has affected not only paddy cultivation but also a number of other sectors including vegetables, tea and fruits.
He said that neither the government nor the Minister in charge of the subject wanted to find a solution to this problem immediately. He said that the farmers had taken steps to carry out agitations throughout the country demanding that they be given the fertilizer they needed for cultivation
He said that the government had taken too long to resolve the issue and if Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage fails to provide a solution to the issue, there was no other option but to bring a No-Confidence Motion against him.
He said that the Motion will be brought in the hope of doing justice to the farming community and to send a message to the government. He said that the SJB Parliamentary Group will meet to discuss the matter.
