‘Teachers absent yesterday will not get salary cuts’

Education Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera informed teachers yesterday (21) in a circular that the Education Ministry had not made any decision to suspend the salaries of teachers who do not attend schools yesterday.

He added that he had not been instructed by the Education Minister or President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to cut salaries of teachers who do not attend the schools.

“Many Teachers’ Unions have informed me that their teachers would attend schools on October 25 for official duties," Prof. Perera said. "We have to tackle this issue with much patience and wisdom at this moment for the sake of innocent students," he said.

About 5,106 government schools were opened yesterday for students by the Education Ministry. He added that the parents were requested to send their children to schools without any hesitation.
