Expressway Chief Cashier granted bail

Panadura Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya yesterday ordered a cash bail of Rs.10,000 with two sureties on the Chief Cashier of the Southern Expressway Galanigama Inter Express Depot regarding the theft of Rs. 1.4 million.

The suspect was arrested by the Police for the alleged theft of Rs. 1.4 million at the Gelanigama Expressway last month.

The Bandaragama Police Crime Branch along with Panadura Division Crime Investigations Unit Officials after investigations arrested the Chief Cashier at his house in Bandarawela and recovered Rs.300,000 of the stolen cash from his possession.

Based on a ‘B’ report submitted to Court, the Additional Magistrate remanded the suspect pending further investigations.

When the case was taken up before Court yesterday, the lawyers who appeared for the suspect pleaded for his release on bail as the Police had completed investigations regarding the theft.

Considering the submissions made by Lawyer Roshan Dehiwalage and Sub Inspector Gunaratne of the Bandaragama police, the Additional Magistrate released the suspect on cash bail of Rs.10,000.
