Work on the Makumbura, Kottawa housing project for middle income people in Colombo has been expedited on the instruction of Minister of Urban Development and Housing and. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa under the National Policy Framework, “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”.
The construction of new flat comprising 314 houses under the programme of constructing 3,000 new houses for the homeless people in the Colombo district at Makumbura in Kottawa recently commenced. The construction work of 3,000 houses in the initial phase under the programme of constructing 5000 houses commenced at Orugodawatta.
This apartment complex consisting of 314 houses will be constructed near the Makumbura Multipurpose Transport Centre, the Expressway entrance and High Level Road. The construction work will be supervised by the Urban Development Authority. It has been decided to provide all shanty dwellers in the Colombo Municipal Council area with new houses at suitable places.
