Work on Nissarana Centre expedited

Work on the first registered shelter for sick and needy Buddhist nuns has been expedited in Iluppukanniya, Ruwangama near the Mihintale rock. The Centre, ‘Nissarana’ has been initiated by the Anuradhapura District Sil Mathas Society. Now 10 Buddhist nuns (Sil Mathas) are staying at the centre.

The land for the centre has been donated by A.M.L.K. Samarakoon, a social activist in the area, Manjula Sooriyagampola of Katugasthota has contributed for the initial construction work.

“We will add at least 10 well-equipped rooms for needy Buddhist nuns. Construction of one room costs around Rs. 600,000. Those who wish to contribute in this regard by donating building materials, accessories, and alms among others are kindly requested calls us on 025–2222043, 025–2221058, 0252266800 and 071–3177765. Financial contributions could be made to the Account Number 87845706 at the Mihintale Bank of Ceylon Branch,” the Management Committee said.

The Nissarana Shelter has been registered with the Buddhist Affairs Department under B/12/AramaLi/067.

The Management Board also invites women volunteers to look after the inmates at the Nissarana Centre.
