Traffic congestion was reported in Fort yesterday (25), due to a protest by teachers and principals over salary anomalies.
Speaking to the Daily News yesterday (25), General Secretary to the Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said that they had not stopped their struggle yet as the Government has not provided them a satisfactory solution so far.
“We will continue our protest while engaging in teaching activities. The primary school teachers reported for duty as promised yesterday, but they joined the protest thereafter. The Government should know that just because the teachers reported to work, that does not mean that they have abandoned their struggle and the problem has been resolved.
We will not engage in any additional work and will only get involved in teaching activities in a work to rule manner from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm only,” he said.
He further added that protests were held at 317 locations islandwide and contrary to claims that certain groups of teachers had not reported for duties yesterday, all teachers and principals had reported for duty but they would strictly engage only in teaching activities. He said they are determined to carry on their struggle until the Government resolves their issues.
